Between Fashion & Art. Photographs from the Collection of CARLA SOZZANI
THE HELMUT NEWTON FOUNDATION'S LATEST SHOW
When we think about fashion the Sozzani sisters Franca and Carla get mentioned in one breath. While Franca was the legend behind Vogue Italia until 2016, her sister Carla was Editor-in-Chief of Elle Italia and curated the art issues of VOGUE ITALIA. Besides this, Carla, who is a big art lover and collector, founded one of the most iconic art galleries in Milan, 28 years ago. Her passion is photography and she took a special interest in the work of female photographers. Since 1991 her gallery is based at the iconic 10 Corso Como concept store, also founded by her, right next to Termini Garibaldi, in the heart of Milan.
While the Galleria Carla Sozzani is currently exhibiting the World Press Photo 2018 on the first floor, some pieces from her remarkable collection are on their way to Berlin, where they will be exhibited at the Helmut Newton Foundation from the 1st of June 2018.
Together with some still unseen portraits shot by Alice Springs, who celebrates her 95th birthday this year, the foundation will show an abstract of Carla’s Collection – the show Between Art & Fashion, which has already travelled around the world… from the Parisian Gallery Azzedine Alaïa to the Swiss Museum of Fine Arts Le Locle. Presented in a totally new way, around 200 photographs will be now shown at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin. The exhibition shows representative pictures from fashion to art – especially focused on co-operations between Carla Sozzani and Paolo Roversi, Sarah Moon, Bruce Weber and Helmut Newton.
In context of Sozzani’s show, the foundation will present some of Alice Springs’ portraits in June’s Room, mainly focussing on artists, fashion designers and photographers like Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Billy Wilder or Diana Vreeland.
The show starts on the 2nd of June and runs until November 18, 2018.
