Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçon is the name which will be featured in the upcoming spring exhibition at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in NYC. A great new show starting by the beginning of May 2017 that will examine Kawakubo’s fascination with interstitially, or the space between boundaries …or as Rei Kawakubo says herself:

“I have always pursued a new way of thinking about design...by denying established values, conventions, and what is generally accepted as the norm. And the modes of expression that have always beenmost important to me are fusion...imbalance... unfinished... elimination...and absence of intent.”

This in-between space is revealed in Kawakubo’s workas an aesthetic sensibility, establishing an unsettling zone of oscillating visual ambiguity that challenges conventional notions of beauty, good taste and fashionability. The big opening will take place as every year in the name of the glamours The Met Gala on the 1st of Mai 2017. As we are not willing to wait that long, we present you already now some of thesome of the exhibited pieces of Rei Kawakubo’s incredible work:
