Musée YVES SAINT LAURENT Paris
...of one of the greatest couturiers of the last century has opened its doors, giving us access to the exclusive haute couture salons and Saint Laurent’s studio in which fashion history was made.
In October the Hôtel Particulier on Avenue Marceau in Paris opened its doors as one of the largest museums of its kind - the MUSÉE YVES SAINT LAURENT. Here, fashion icon YVES SAINT LAURENT used to create his iconic Haute Couture collections for nearly three decades before the couture house was closed and transformed into the headquarters of the Fondation Pierre Bergé - YVES SAINT LAURENT fifteen years ago. Now, the spaces have been redesigned back again to recreate the original atmosphere of SAINT LAURENT’s legendary studio and the haute couture salons.
The rooms enable us to catch a glimpse of the creative process behind a big label that influenced the fashion world strongly. It shows not only drawings and photos but allows us to physically enter an exclusive world that is usually far away from our reach. Besides these spaces, which were rebuilt true to original, the opening exhibition will also show about fifty designs alongside accessories, sketches, photographs and videos. Alongside these the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris also includes material about the history of the 20th century and the Parisian haute couture customs that are inseparably intertwined with a way of life that is unfamiliar to us nowadays. Visiting the museum is like travelling in time: we won’t look at haute couture the same.
Simultaneously to Paris, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech opened in Morocco, showcasing the fashion work of Saint Laurent, who himself drew a lot of inspiration from that city.
The inaugural display is on until September 2018, which gives us a lot of time and reason enough to visit Paris. After that, the first thematic exhibition will follow: L’Asie rêvée d’Yves Saint Laurent focuses on YVES SAINT LAURENTs fascination of Asia and its endless inspiration for his designs. It will bring together designs accompanied by original sketches and objects, linking the creation with its source. The temporary exhibition at the MUSÉE YVES SAINT LAURENT runs from October 2018 to January 2019.
We recommend buying tickets in advance online, for about € 7.
