MUSICIAN & PERFORMANCE ARTIST
Luke fascinates us with his eccentric sense of style for music and fashion.
Luke aka NEOCAMP has recently relocated from New York City to Berlin and we can’t wait to see what he’s up to next. He describes his music as “Celtic-fag-witch-hop” or more simply put “experimental pop” which also reflects in his stage outfits. From femme vintage clothing with extravagant head pieces to bondage accessories - the Irish artist is as diverse as can be. His hair and beard colour changes as frequently as the Berlin weather this summer. He likes to think of himself as easy to approach despite his extravagant otherworldly looks on nights out. Wanting to be admired from a distance isn’t what Luke’s style is about: his looks somewhat rebel against the conservative Irish town that he’s from. So the character NEOCAMP is also a statement against the homophobic environment he grew up in.
NEOCAMP’s album CONTENT was released in May. It’s a powerful mix of atmospheric electronic tunes, trap and house music, with vulnerable vocals heavily based on traditional Irish lilting. The album invites us to join the conversation about the role of queer independent artists in today’s media, which full of self-presentation, self-exposure and commercial exploitation. Merging ancient tradition with modern sounds and topics, NEOCAMP also makes us want to dance. You can listen to his album on Soundcloud or spotify and buy it on iTunes.
...we cannot wait to see where his journey leads him and are excited to hear and see much more of him soon.
